I just bought the download version of the new Radiohead for £0.94. I requested the price of £0.49, but there was a £0.45 credit card processing fee. I’m quite pleased that Radiohead is taking the lead in changing the music industry’s business model. I paid so little because I’m not really sure what I’ll be getting. I searched briefly but found no details on the format and bitrate of the download. I can certainly see myself purchasing a “second copy” after I receive the first if I am happy with the files. I know I’ll like the music—I just wish there was a little more detail on the data itself.
Glenn Skinner snapped this shot about half a mile from my house today. The kayaker is paddling down what is normally a street.
Update: The kayaker pictured is Dr. Joe Menge.
I have moments of brilliant productivity, and long stretches of banging my head against the wall trying to get momentum. I am currently experiencing the latter and it’s driving me nuts. The more crazy I get, the less I get done, the less I get done, the more I start cutting out other things that need to get done (laundry, food shopping, bills, etc.) in order to have more time to dedicate to the stuff I really want to get done… but then more times than not, I still don’t get it done, and then have a backlog of a million things big and small that now are all in desperate need of getting done. — Russell Beattie
That’s the story of my life. I totally understand where Russ is coming from.
OK, so last night I got lost on the xda-developers.com forums. When I say lost, I really mean lost. I spent at least 3 hours poring over the various threads about upgrading HTC Wizards (the Cingular 8125’s formal name). And today I have an upgraded device. Windows Mobile 6, Office 2007, upgraded camera software, and more.
Here are some links to the upgrades that I went with:
NBD v8.0
IPL/SPL 3.08, Radio 2.69.11
Cingular WM6 Radio Fix2
The following were honorable mentions that I haven’t tried yet:
XDA Mobile 6 Release 2a
See No Evil v2.0
The forums forced me to drool over some of the 8525 (aka Hermes) upgrades while I was there:
Sleuth’s v3.0 Developer ROM
vp3G’s WM6 v3.0
There was a ton of info on the wiki, too. If you’re a Windows Mobile fan, visit these links with caution. You might lose a day or two of your life to WinMo hacking.

I think this photo speaks for itself. Banksy does it again.

Chris posted this recently, and I just had to share it. For my use, however, I’d like to see the space bar be a little taller.

Woodall Rodgers Park will be built upon a deck that will cover a portion Woodall Rodgers Freeway. In the image at right, the green areas will be covered. Most of the infamous “concrete canyon” will become a tunnel. Check out the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation site for more info.

A few days ago, I had not ever heard of High Dynamic Range Imaging, or HDR for short. When I saw an example, I knew I had to try it out. I first found out that the file format for these special images is wide open. It seems that Industrial Light & Magic created this format and open sourced the code to work with it. I found two excellent resources for studying up on HDR. And most importantly, I found Photomatix, which is the software for creating HDR images. I have barely scraped the surface of HDR, but I do have a sample image ready to go. I’m seeing the potential for a lot of fun photos with HDR. And apparently, there are a lot of great examples out on Flickr.

There has been a lot going on in Dallas lately. And much more is in store for the future.
DallasFood.org released their final choices for the Chicken Fried Steak Countdown today. The Beaujolais Nouveau Festival is tonight.* Whole Foods is having a tasting tomorrow, too. More wine-related events can be found at DallasWine.com.
Next week marks the opening of Dallas Roof Gardens:
The top level of the downtown resto hosts a rooftop stream and dizzying (stay strong) views of the city. One floor below, thereâs the ultra-swank Petrus Lounge. And a quick walk down the staircase brings you into the main dining room, where chef David Gilbert (formerly of The Beverly Hilton) whips up palate-pleasing fare.
Coming up at the end of the year, New Year’s Eve at the Nasher. Tickets aren’t cheap, but Wolfgang Puck is making dinner.
And to make the Arts District construction a bit more bearable, I found some nice imagery of the Dee and Charles Wyly Theater and the Winspear Opera House. The Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation has exciting plans in store for our city.
